After you flip a coin for weeks, Sébastien Ogier has signed for M-Sport. Act followed, and a few hours after the announcement of his arrival to the preparer of Cumbria, the French rider was already at the controls of the Ford Fiesta RS WRC 2017 on the snow of Sweden. There is No time to lose before the big challenge ahead. At 33 years of age and with four titles in the WRC in their display cases, Sebastien Ogier has very little to prove, and it deals with illusion the option to take to M-Sport and Ford to the top of the Championship Rally World many years later.
In statements to ‘Rallye-Magazin’, Sébastien Ogier acknowledged: “I Want to be in the battle for the top places and otherwise would not have made this choice. Even so, it is still too early to give an accurate picture. We tested two days in Sweden and we will do a pre-test at the Monte carlo Rally. Then I’ll have the data to assess the situation,”. In relation to the recruitment of the technical team of Volkswagen and the options of clocking in for Citroën, Ogier explained: “Due to the date of the signing, there is still much to clarify. We will give our best effort because my focus is on the future, and not on what is not happening”.
all in all, Sébastien Ogier knows that to fight for the title or victories in the first rally of the year will not be an easy task, so the French have decided to reduce expectations: “I don’t have pressure or anything more than demonstrate. It is obvious that it will be difficult to get that Ford is at the top. The brand does not win the drivers title since 1981 with Ari Vatanen and M-Sport has a dual trademark title in 2006 and 2007. Is a difficult task, but as I said before, this is a challenge that excites me“.
