A picture from when Opel was a manufacturer cost-effective
If we trust the preliminary data, Opel and Vauxhall sold in Europe last year 1.1 million of cars and I SAW light. It is the best result since 2011, also the best data quota -5,8%- since that year. Regarding 2014, sales have grown a 3,3%.
If we look at volume (number of sales), have grown in 20 european countries, although they have only increased share in 10 countries. Spain was the fourth most important market for Opel, with more than 11,000 units and a growth 16,24%, below the market average (+20,9%).
In the third quarter of 2015 Opel lost 200 million euros before interest and taxes. In the same period of 2014 the loss was 400 million euros. But between April and June, Opel had the result “flat”, without loss or profit, but it has affected the course of the Russian market, the country in which they have suspended sales.
In 2017 Opel/Vauxhall will not have the competition next Chevrolet, a brand that has removed practically all in the old continent. The renewal of his heart in the range, the Astra, and the arrival of the variant family of new generation, may mean finally having a year with a profit, however small these are.
The last time that GM had benefits in a full year in Europe was in 1999, 17 years ago.
