Mario Isola, maximum technical responsible of Pirelli, expected that all teams involved in the development of tyres that will debut in the pre-season test to be played in Barcelona at the end of February and first of march 2017.
The Italian engineer believes that the fact of being able to count on the new cars and, therefore, not having to adapt the old, it will be a point in favor for greater participation. “The format is similar to that we have had this year, with the difference that we will not have cars adapted, but we will have the race car. So I hope to have more equipment available to test, we don’t have the numbers, but we are finishing up the plan. We will offer the test to all teams and we’ll see who is available”, said Isola in a statement to Autosport.
This year, only Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari have collaborated, but Pirelli is looking forward to further participation in a test that will be organized in function of how many computers are pointing to the same. “once we get the list of available equipment, we will make a calendar with the FIA to distribute or make a rotation of the test and distribute it evenly. There are many venues, but we’re still discussing. We have references to circuits like Barcelona, for example, or Paul Ricard for the (tyres) in the wet and I think we will use these circuits again”.
One of the points to consider will be the use of circuits in which it has competed during the weekend, so as to prevent displacement of specific and avoid major expenses. “Probably we will, if possible, on the same tracks that we race on Sunday with a similar system to that of the test season. The equipment will already be there and, from Tuesday, will have two or three test days. It is for this reason that we are also evaluating different circuits”.
