Pirelli has carried out an intensive work to create a new
range of wider tires -305 mm front and 405 mm rear – with lower
degradation from the test which have been completed in recent months along
Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari cars of 2015 that mimicked the load
aerodynamics of the new cars from 2017. A job that will be realized with
the first eight days of test that Formula 1 is going to complete in the
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, an event for which Pirelli will supply more than
The 3,500 tyres to all the teams.
The first session of test in Barcelona will be the first
opportunity for all teams to test the new tires
Pirelli, any time that, to date, only Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari have
able to assess the tires of the Italian firm, while the rest of the squad
it had to settle with having full access to the data generated in these
tests. Therefore, it is expected that the first session of testing have a
day wet track artificially. It will be the 2nd of march, the last day of the first week
test, always and when the rain did not make act of presence in some of the days
prior.
In this way, Pirelli travels to Barcelona with her range to the full, including tires, intermediate and extreme wet.
In total, 810 sets of tyres have been moved to Montmeló, with a total
23, games hard, 263 media, and 287 of tender. To these we must add
the 74 games superblandos, 51 ultrablandos and the aforementioned tires
intermediate and rain, divided in 67 and 45 lots respectively. In addition,
the teams will also have the opportunity to evaluate the compounds of
booking, built on the compounds and architectures of 2016, with the greatest
degradation and lower performance. There will be 70 sets of these tires.
