Porsche Motorsport has experienced a start of season ‘against’. The German firm decided to compete with the kit low downforce in the two previous rounds at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A decision that prevented the mark to win at Silverstone and Spa, but it was worth it to get the maximum preparation for La Sarthe. Exceeded the epicenter of the WEC, now the brand from Stuttgart is premiere, because Porsche is set to compete in the 6 Hours of Nürburgring with the kit high downforce for the first time. The Porsche 919 Hybrid are already ready to such end.
The kit high downforce Porsche includes a new front and changes in the rear part of the body of the LMP1, modifications that have been assessed during a comprehensive test of more than 1,800 kilometres that took place in Barcelona at the end of the month of June. Timo Bernhard, Brendon Hartley and Earl Bamber were in charge of this test, André Lotterer, Nick Tandy and Neel Jani will have their first experience with the Porsche 919 Hybrid of high-downforce, of which there are still photos, during the free Friday’s session at the Nürburgring.
In relation to this kit of high ‘downforce’ which premieres Porsche at the Nürburgring, Andreas Seild, Director of the Porsche LMP1, explained to ‘Autosport’ the procedure followed by the computer: “After winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans went directly to a test of three days in Barcelona. That was a test, very positive. Our new kit, high downforce seems to be good, although there is now to prove its actual performance in competition, on the race track. In any case, we feel well prepared to contest the 6 Hours of Nürburgring“.
