For months there has been talk of the new generation of World Rally Cars.
Cars are faster, powerful and effective that promise a great
show. All in all, the debut of this new era of competitive and of these
cars will take place in the scenario more unpredictable of all, the Monte carlo Rally, .
The appointment of the inaugural calendar 2017 is a test, iconic, magical and
in which successes and failures are accentuated, but where to evaluate the performance of the new World Rally Cars in relation to their ancestors, and regarding the rest of the rivals seems to be impossible. Whims of the WRC, but the show must start.
Speaking of the Rally of Monte carlo is to do it test more
charismatic and with more history of the WRC. Its first edition dates from 1911, although
the appointment of monegasque not consolidated until the decade of the years 20. By then
it was already a point of pilgrimage for pilots and fans of the discipline. Your
legend was growing bigger and since 1973, formed part of the calendar of the WRC,
contest that has been the protagonist in every season except in rare
exceptions. Sebastien Loeb with seven wins is the pilot more successful in this
rally that Walter Röhrl, Sandro Murani, Tommi Mäkinen and Sébastien Ogier have
won on four occasions.
In its 85th edition, the Monte carlo Rally, will feature a
a total of 17 special. The pilots will face 382,65 miles
timed, divided in four days in the ice and surely
the snow will be the protagonists. Based on Gap and a new ride in the 85% of
its extension, the challenges will be enormous for all pilots. After the
shakedown of the day Wednesday, the real fire will start on the night of the
Thursday with two special, ‘Bayons – Bréziers’ one of the new stretches.
There will be nothing easy to deal with more than 46 kilometers timed with the grills headlights installed.
The stage Friday will be composed by a loop of three
sections that will be played in two occasions. This is the day longer
the test, with almost 160 kilometres competitive, and in addition will feature the
novelty of the special ‘Agnières-en-Dévoluy – Le Motty’, like the rest
sections will be held on two occasions. The Saturday will feature a total of
five special, while Sunday is reserved four sections without
assistance intermediate in the the riders will face the Col de Turini and
to a Power Stage of more than 21 kilometres.
The keys to the Monte carlo Rally will go through two aspects,
the tires and the weather. From there you draw everything else. Something that
it may seem evident becomes a real headache for
the drivers and teams, every time that it is very difficult to hit with the riding
tires or failing to find the compromise between the favourable areas and
those that are not so. pilots will need to choose a total of 41 tires
among the four types of compounds available. Weather forecast,
the role of the ‘ouvriers’ and the state of the segments will define this election.
With the arrival of the new World Rally Cars and their 380
horse power, the own choice of the tires and the steering will be
still most critical, and delicate. It is something that they know very well the 10 pilots
will debut this new era, among which is Sébastien Ogier. The gaul
starts the defence of his title with one of the Ford Fiesta RS WRC of M-Sport,
training in which to share work with Ott Tanak and Elfyn Evans, this last
with colors and tyres from DMACK. For its part, Hyundai used
the same three riders in 2016, so Thierry Neuville, Dani Sordo and Hayden
Paddon seek the victory in Monte carlo.
The return of Citroën as an official team comes from the hand of the debut of the Citroën C3 WRC with Kris Meeke and Stéphane Lefebvre his commanders, the entire time that Craig Breen will be flying this time a Citroën DS3 WRC for the last generation. All in all, the most anticipated return is that of the Toyota with Jari-Matti Latvala and Juho Hänninen will compete with two Toyota Yaris WRC that put the point and followed the history of the brand in the championship, nearly two decades after. All these World Rally Cars is necessary to add the Citroën DS3 WRC of Jourdan Serderidis, only registered in the Monte carlo Rally in the new WRC Trophy.
The category WRC2 has great attractions, starting from Andreas Mikkelsen that will rise to a Skoda Fabia R5 official, sharing structure with Jan Kopecký. About your Fabia R5 will not be Max Rendina after suffering a rollover in the pre-test, so that Armin Kremer will be the only private pilot with R5 in the Czech republic. All in all, opposite will be the Hyundai i20 R5 Quentin Gilbert or the Peugeot 208 T16 R5 Quentin Giordano. All in all, another great strength in the category is M-Sport with the Ford Fiesta R5 official who will be flying Eric Camilli. Bryan Bouffier, Giandomenico Basso or Andrea Crugnola also use the R5 of Cumbria to compete in the ‘Mount’.
Chapter apart deserves the final of the Clio R3T will compete Surhayén Pernía, as well as the class R-GT which will feature the debut of three Abarth 124 Rally, and the usual Porsche 911’s Romain Dumas. In the same way, there will also be follow the trail to other riders who can do well as Kevin Abbring and Pontus Tidemand, with the R5 official of Hyundai and Skoda, but outside of the category WRC2. In addition, a third Spanish rider will be at liza the whole time Pepe Lopez will compete with a Peugeot 208 T16 R5 in Calm Competició.
