The DTM returns to action the Lausitzring, a scenario with an essence peculiar. After landing in the German Championship of passenger Cars in the year 2000, picking up the baton of the legendary Avus in Berlin, this circuit had a boot rugged. However, Lausitzring has settled in the calendar of the DTM to such an extent that since then we have played a total of 17 races in this scenario. Eleven of them have ended with victory for Mercedes-Benz, so this track seems to the perfect place for Paul Di Resta to defend the leadership of the category.
Lausitzring has a setting unusual for its oval shape. Although these tracks are a constant in north America, in Europe there are so many circuits that have this design. Even so, the DTM uses a variant of mixed 3.478 meters formed by the straight lines of this oval and an inner section with fast corners, chicanes and angles slow. All in all, this is a path in which it is very difficult to get set up, as checked by the pilots of the DTM, but also the ADAC GT Masters, the ADAC Formel 4, Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland and IDM Superbike.
Paul Di Resta is the man to beat, which has been the
only leader who has seen the DTM in 2016. The Mercedes driver managed to
withstand the unfavorable conditions in Austria, and lands with three points of
advantage over Edoardo Mortara on a track that historically has been very
favorable to Mercedes-Benz. Equal on points and waving the flag of BMW
in the fight for the title, Timo Glock and Maxime Martin are the only other riders to
arrive at Lausitzring under some pressure. Even so, equality is the maximum, and
ten top finishers move on to 23 points of margin.
Although it is really tricky to pull out the head in the DTM,
according to the results of 2015 at Lausitzring there are at least two other drivers
called to be able to shine. Jamie Green scored the victory in both races in the
last season. The other pilot to follow is a Miguel Molina who got the
pole position at Lausitzring in 2015 and that has always been fast on this track. For your
part, Dani Juncadella will try to end their inconspicuous start to the season
a track that climbed for the first time in a Mercedes from the DTM and in which
scored twice in 2015.
After seeing the poor performance that dragged the
Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM Red Bull Ring, the weights of compensation will
have a pivotal role in Lausitzring. On this occasion, and after the second
classification lived in Austria, the BMW M4 DTM happens to be the car more heavy
with a total weight of 1.122,5 kilos. For his part, the Audi RS 5 DTM
started with a weight of 1,120 kg, while the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM
will try to take advantage of the calculation to be please with the start the weekend by having a total weight of 1.110 kg.
