Renault Coupe Corbusier Concept: homage to, and exercise of design

Renault Coupé Corbusier ConceptToday marks 50 years of the death of Le Corbusier, a well-known swiss architect who was one of the great figures of architecture in the TWENTIETH Century. Renault wanted to pay tribute to this illustrious personage and his work by presenting the Renault Coupe Corbusier Concept. This prototype takes inspiration from the French culture, and the decade of the ‘ 30s, considered the golden age of the automobile.

Since Renault have made it clear that this vehicle will not reach production, but it is a design exercise. It would be the car of the XXI Century according to the principles and theories of modernist of the architect. The ideas I wanted to convey with the Coupe Corbusier Concept are “simplicity, a structure visually pleasing, elegance, geometric, and the domain of light”.

Renault Coupé Corbusier ConceptThe result is a vehicle with a body coupe very sharp, with a hood of large dimensions that occupies a large part of the total length of the prototype. It follows a style Art Deco, with a grill oval chrome-flanked by headlights elongated with LED technology. The cabin has a capacity for four passengers and it is located in a position delayed.

having lost space to the trunk, have been enabled gaps in the wheel arches front and rear that allow you to hold objects. Lagging behind is marked by a few LED headlights oblong together at the center. The entire roof is made of glass, increasing the luminosity and the suicide doors are opened up. The engine have not given details for the moment.

The Renault Coupe Corbusier Concept will be exhibited from today until march 20, 2016. in Villa Saboye, one of the creations of modernist Le Corbusier’s most famous. It belongs to the exhibition “Cars for life: the automobile and modernism in the XX and XXI centuries” that has been organized by the Centre des Monuments Nationaux.
