Report F1: The truth about the duel between Vettel and Räikkönen

analisis-vettel-raikkonen-f1-2016-ferrar

Ferrari started the season with many hopes of being able to at least stand face-to-Mercedes. In the first few races, the car seemed to be fast enough to be able to challenge for wins, but different drawbacks prevented them from paying the maximum.

strategic Errors, incidents, or breakdowns led to both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen lost opportunities and, from the Grand Prix of Spain, the stagnation of the team of Maranello in the development of the car, along with the recovery of Red Bull from the hand of Renault, that complicated things even more.

Ferrari has suffered with the reliability, with the tires with the strategy and also with the evolution of the single-seater, which suffered a stagnation from Spain until the last few races of the month of July. Subsequently, the team reacted in part, but Red Bull had already reached a level that is scarcely comparable to those of Maranello and the runner-up position was soon unattainable.

And, in regard to the pilots, in many it has been the feeling that Kimi Räikkönen has been better than Vettel this year. And it is true that the performance of both has changed with respect to 2015 but, is enough to give the finn the label of best pilot of the team this year?

Australia

In the start was a second behind Vettel, but made the same strategic mistake. Shortly after it lost power and the car caught fire in the pit-lane, having to leave with the turbo broken.

Season mediocre

Error in the pit lane in Australia, engine is broken in Bahrain, one’s own mistakes in China, electrical failure, gear box and accident in Russia… thus began the season of Sebastian Vettel when the car was at its best. But the season as Kimi Räikkönen was not much better, mainly due to its chronic problems in the understanding of the Pirelli tyres and be able to generate the sufficient temperature as to be able to maximize your grip.

Neither Sebastian Vettel nor Kimi Räikkönen have surrendered to a level that can be considered satisfactory and, in the light of the results, a result complicated to define if any of the two deserves a approved this year, although we can not forget that the car, although fast, it has been really complicated to implement and too sensitive to changes of temperature and track conditions. In the race, the Ferrari has yielded much better than in qualifying, but the delayed positions of the output or the errors and misfortune have ended up with the most of the opportunities to obtain a good result and have not gotten the victories or pole positions and only eleven podiums of 42 possible.

analisis-vettel-raikkonen-f1-2016-ferrar

Sebastian Vettel started the season by taking advantage over his team-mate in Australia, but both spent a large part of the year by exchanging their respective positions in the classification. Finally, the German was highlighted in the last four races.

But, what pilot has managed to improve the performance of your partner? By very bad that it has been the season of Sebastian Vettel, has been better than Kimi Räikkönen a year more. More points, more podiums, more Great Prizes that has dominated his teammate throughout the weekend, less driving errors, the more damage suffered, more sanctions by mechanical problems, something that was to be expected known of the history of the Finnish, much better understanding with the tires.

What is certain is that Kimi Räikkönen has few arguments in its favor to justify that it has had a better perception of their season with respect to Sebastian Vettel. The consolation that his season has been better than the, 2015, with a single lower -at least compared to its rivals – should not mislead us to say that, without a doubt, the worst season for Vettel in many years has been, in any case, better than that of Räikkönen.

we must Not forget that Kimi Räikkönen is a driver of enormous talent who was World Champion with Ferrari and, therefore, its reaction in classification starting from the month of July and your best average of points compared to other seasons should not be considered sufficient. Thus, what has been the best Räikkönen Vettel in 2016? At all.
