Say goodbye to rear-view mirrors of your car, the future are the cameras

RetrovisorWhen a brand launches a prototype, depending on the type of model that is, is sometimes taken the liberty of modifying certain elements to which we are accustomed. One of those items are the mirrors. The modification and deletion of pampering in a concept car is not something new, but we have been doing for many years. However, the evolution of technology in the automotive sector is making the disappearance of these elements occurs in leaps and bounds.

The cars without side-view mirrors are in the phase of development between car manufacturers of Japan. In fact, Japan has already approved the use of rear-view mirrors digital. We must remember that several component manufacturers have very advanced technology that will use these new mirrors, and that the next year, a japanese manufacturer, whose name has not been revealed yet, will be for sale the first vehicle without mirrors to use.

Retrovisoreshowever, and despite the advantages that the replacement of the traditional exterior mirrors, cameras, there are a number of problems that still have not been solved at all. Some of these problems were related to the security, because even though the cameras used a wide-angle lens, could lose sharpness, have reflections or other anomalies that may prevent a correct vision.

Another of the problems associated would be the mass production. Manufacture a car without mirrors means combine external cameras and monitors, expand the electrical network of the car (with the consequent need for power) with the technical complexity that this implies. Therefore, the production of vehicles with this technology could become more expensive, since developing a system to guarantee safe conditions of driving, with secondary systems to cover an emergency, make the development of vehicles.

One of the companies that is working to solve the problems that presents the use of cameras and screens as a substitute of mirrors is Valeo. This company wants to have solved these problems of face-to – 2018, a date that has been marked for iniciar the mass production of this surveillance system. We’ll see how it’s going this technology in Japan and the reliability and security that it brings to drivers to decide for her.
