The Fiat 124 Spider is already official. It is based on the Mazda MX-5 but has been 100% designed by Fiat, while the maximum torque of the engine was replaced by a unit-1.4 turbo with 160 hp.
Tras a long wait and after having known some leaks, finally the Fiat 124 Spider it’s official. This is a convertible two-seater that brings to life the denomination 124 Spider and that is one of the biggest novelties of Fiat in the Salon Automobile Los Angeles.
The Fiat 124 Spider takes as a basis the Mazada MX-5, but dresses with a body entirely designed by Fiat, with some nods to the 124 original. Stands out your front more rounded than in the japanese product, as well as a hood more bulky, grill of large size, some optical groups format is rounded and a rear-mounted format of most of the width, elements that make differences in aesthetic important with respect to the MX-5.
where the differences are more subtle it is in the interior, which appears to have been taken almost without modification of the japanese model.
One of the aspects that has worked with Fiat is its body, while the interior is the same as the Mazda.
In that sense everything is equal, from the design of the dashboard, to the controls of the air conditioning seem to have been taken directly from the MX-5, limited changes only the emblem of Fiat located in the center of the steering wheel.
But without a doubt the biggest difference between the two is under the hood, since the blocks of 1.5 and 1.8-litre normally aspirated the Mazda have been replaced by a propeller 1.4-liter turbo of origin Abarth for the north american version produces 160 horsepower and 241 Nm of torque, which transmits its power to the rear wheels through a manual gearbox or automatic 6 speed transmissions.
The first 124 copies of the Fiat 124 Spider will be offered in a limited series called Prima Edizione Lusso, which will feature exclusive details such as upholstery leather, plaque identification, and its body is painted a blue colour called Azzurro Italy.
The two-seater Fiat will be available in two equipment levels named Classica and Lusso, while in a second stage there will be a variant signed by Abarth.
