The rallies in Spain have a precarious health, subject also to the continuous changes of regulations that plague the Championship of Spain of Rallies de Asfalto (CERA) year after year. Some measures that aim to enhance the competitiveness and open the door to a variety of vehicles, but causing a scene is inconsistent in that it is very difficult to find opportunities for the younger riders. For this reason, and following in the footsteps of José Antonio ‘Rocket’ Suarez, there are few pilots that have made their bags and have opted to compete in the 208 Rally Cup.
To date, six Spanish riders have already confirmed their programme in the 208 Rally Cup, the cup-brand organized by Peugeot in France, and which has attractive prizes for your winner. José Antonio ‘Rocket’ Suarez won the edition of 2015, and as such, has a program as an official driver of Peugeot Sport in the category WRC2. Doesn’t seem like a bad goal for the pilots that have taken the step. The last to do so have been Nil and Jan Solans, in addition to Pepe Lopez, the winner of the competition Junior in 2015 and the Victor Senra, Pau Frigola and Jose Luis Pelaez.
Pepe Lopez has yet to confirm his presence in the 208 Rally Cup, but there should not be impediment to repeat with the team of Peugeot Spain. For his part, Jose Luis Pelaez has been confirmed with the team RaceSeven, while that between the brothers Solans, Jan faces a stage exciting and Nil Solans takes a step back necessary after he failed to reap the expected results in the Drive DMACK and in WRC2. In any case, in a short space of time to all these riders could add other names like Efrén LLanera and Álvaro Muñiz, who have shown great interest in the category.
