SsangYong is developing on the roads of Spain the new generation of its Rexton W, with a prototype camouflaged that we show you in these spy photos. The SUV Korean is a complete makeover and will be on sale during the next year: the SsangYong Rexton 2017 will keep technology from Mercedes-Benz.
In fact, a group of engineers at Daimler have been commissioned to perform these tests. In the current SsangYong Rexton collaboration, Mercedes-Benz is still very much present, and in fact the model has been incorporated 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission, with seven relations.
This technology transfer agreement between the two brands will continue to present in the next generation of the model. Moreover, his full camouflage-based plastic panels and black canvas obscures the view of the design that will be the production model, although it does feel small details such as the line of its roof, or its optical.
Your style will be based on the SsangYong LIV-1 Concept, a prototype that dates back to 2013. Chassis monocoque and the use of high-strength steels, the Rexton 2017 will reduce slightly their weight with respect to the current model, at the same time that improve its dynamic behavior. We also expect an increase of quality in its interior and finishes.
In the SsangYong Rexton 2017 will remain the diesel engine D22T already known, a 2.2-litre 178 HP, although it could incorporate other new mechanics. With development code Y400, the new Rexton will be followed by a “brother” with the body pick-up, which already has the green light for its development, and is known internally as Y200.
