The south Korean Ssangyong Motor Company has announced plans to enter the electric vehicle segment and will do so with an SUV before the end of the decade.
Ssangyong is developing the new generation the Korando, which will also be featured on a variant 100% electric.
By the time the technical data about its first electric model are scarce, but it is expected that the model can offer an autonomy of around 300 miles. The powertrain is being developed in India by Mahindra & Mahindra, as it will also be used in other models of the group. Possibly its mechanics could be based on the prototype Tivoli EVR submitted last year, which used a electric motor 127 HP.
In visual terms it is expected that the new Ssangyong Korando electric look like the conventional models, with an exterior styling that might be taken as the basis of the prototype XAV presented some time ago, a conceptual work that was criticized for its similarity to the Toyota FJ Cruiser. However, the signature south Korean quickly clarified the prototype is actually inspired in the Korando’s original 1986.
The first electric model produced by Ssangyong, will hit the market in the year 2019, to compete directly against the Kia Niro, which will also be for that then your version 100% power.
