Gunther Steiner is a man racing and prior to being Chief of Team Haas F1, he has lived from within the evolution of championships such as the WRC, Formula 1 or NASCAR. Perhaps for this reason, the maximum responsible of Haas is not too concerned about the awakening that is living the Formula E. Although understand that all the manufacturers want to be part of this movement power, also predicts that the coexistence between all of these brands will not be easy. By this, Steiner believes that Formula E is a series of additional and never a real threat to the Formula 1.
Although in the last week, Mercedes and Porsche have signed their commitment to the Formula And to join other manufacturers such as Renault, Audi, BMW, or Jaguar, Steiner is very clear the position of each category and so it has been left patent in ‘Autosport’, where it explained: “Formula E is not a threat to the Formula E, is an additional series. I have yet to see the Formula 1 as something very good, it is the pinnacle of motorsport. The Formula E is having a great time in which everyone wants to be a part of this movement electric. It’s totally understandable“.
Mercedes will spend a lot less on the Formula And that in the DTM and Porsche the same thing with the WEC
Steiner, however, predicts that not everything is as ideal as it seems: “When they are seven or eight manufacturers involved, not everyone will be able to win. There will be a war for who can do more, who has the authority and all this kind of things. By now you have spectators limited and may not generate income”.
In this line, the pattern of Haas F1 has added: “Even for the Formula 1 it is difficult to get income and have the best riders. If the Formula And became a threat, with put electric motors could fix it, because we have the platform. I can understand the interest in Formula E because it is a series cheap. The decision is easy. Mercedes will spend a lot less on the Formula And that in the DTM and Porsche the same thing with the WEC“.
