If you are tired of seeing carbon buildup on your intake valves or dealing with the dreaded oil blow-by coating your Camaro’s intake manifold, you aren’t alone. Direct-injection engines are prone to this gunk, which gradually robs your LT1 or LT4 engine of efficiency and throttle response. My testing process involved installing five leading catch…
Direct-injected engines like those in your Chevrolet Malibu often suffer from carbon buildup on intake valves due to oil vapor being recirculated through the PCV system. This can lead to sluggish throttle response and long-term performance degradation. In my testing, I installed and monitored five popular catch can systems over 5,000 miles of mixed city…
If you have noticed sluggish throttle response or the dreaded “check engine” light in your Nissan Altima, you are likely dealing with carbon buildup caused by oil blow-by. After testing five universal and platform-specific catch cans on various 2.5L and 3.5L V6 configurations, I have found that the Mishimoto Baffled Oil Catch Can is the…
If you own a Ford Explorer with an EcoBoost engine, you’re likely battling the silent buildup of carbon deposits on your intake valves caused by oil blow-by. This gunk robs your SUV of its factory-rated throttle response and long-term fuel efficiency, turning a once-peppy engine sluggish over time. I spent three months installing and monitoring…
If you own a Volvo XC90, you are likely familiar with the carbon buildup issues common in modern direct-injection engines. Over time, oil vapors circulating through the PCV system coat your intake valves, robbing your engine of performance and fuel efficiency. To address this, I spent three months testing various oil catch cans designed for…
If you drive a BMW 3 Series, you know the frustration of carbon buildup on your intake valves—a direct result of blow-by gases cycling back through your engine. Over months of track days and daily commuting, I’ve tracked the efficacy of various air-oil separators to see which ones actually stop that sludge from choking your…
If you drive a Ford F-150 with an EcoBoost engine, you’ve likely noticed the telltale signs of oil blow-by: carbon buildup on your intake valves and sluggish throttle response as oil vapor recirculates through your intake track. I’ve spent the last six months testing various air-oil separators across different F-150 generations to see which ones…
If you own a BMW 3 Series, especially with the N54, N55, or B58 engines, you’ve likely dealt with the frustration of carbon buildup on your intake valves. The factory PCV system recirculates oil vapors back into your intake tract, which—over time—creates a sticky, performance-robbing mess. After putting several popular catch cans through thousands of…
If you drive a BMW X5, particularly those equipped with the N55 or B58 engines, you’ve likely noticed the tell-tale sluggishness and carbon buildup that comes from direct injection blow-by. After spending three weeks testing various oil catch can configurations across different X5 chassis, it is clear that the BMS (Burger Motorsports) Billet Oil Catch…
