In Current Engine we have already had occasion to get behind the wheel of one of the cars most anticipated of the year, the Alfa Romeo Giulia. The sedan of segment D of Alfa Romeo is already a reality, having started the marketing in Spain with prices that start from 33.150 euros, even rising to 86.600 € if we look for the 510 HP that Giulia Quadrifoglio.
The test of the Alfa Romeo Giulia that we have been able to do during the national launch of the model has been very short, but has helped us to see that the italians have done a good job and the Alfa Romeo Giulia will be talking about. We have conducted the intermediate version of the range, with engine 2.2 diesel 150 hp, and a change manual of six speeds.
DNA Alfa Romeo
The Alfa Romeo Giulia maintains some of the characteristics of the models of the biscione, as the front grille triangular inverted, supported on this occasion by two air intakes horizontal which together with the headlights help to give more presence to the Giulia. The hood lengthened, and the fall of the roof are key in the design of this saloon, on whose behind we find a trunk topped with a sort of integrated spoiler, a stylized rear headlights and exhaust outlets double (depending on the version).
But DNA is beyond the aesthetic. With this vehicle the brand returns to the rear-wheel-drive, something that left you with the Alfa Romeo 75 in the decade of the 80. That configuration that gives a plus of dynamism to the Alfa Romeo Giulia is one of the things most valued by the fans of the brand. After the 4C, this Giulia makes it clear that in a certain way the italians want to go back to making cars like the old.
A premium interior
however, the jump most prominent is the inside. No one has doubts that Alfa Romeo is able to create cars that are attractive, but on this occasion they have taken the quality of settings and materials to levels higher than usual, and that has nothing to envy of its rivals premium.
The top of the dashboard, as well as doors are made of plastic padding and the central area of the door panels and the armrests are upholstered, giving the Giulia of a high perceived quality. Favor a lot of the interiors bittern available in the finish Super. The fabrics are pleasant to the touch.
The design of the dashboard is attractive in its flowing forms, with outputs of the aeration side of the turbine type. All controls are positioned by hand, with an ergonomic well-resolved and a good quality of controls. The greatest success is the screen of the multimedia computer, which is not touch-enabled, seamlessly integrated, in the design of the dashboard and that, except when power is turned on, you cannot see your size in inches. Unlike models such as the BMW 3 Series or Mercedes C-Class, which may have smaller screens in your configurations are the most basic, the Giulia knows to disguise it very well.
habitability is not the best argument
The squares in front of the Alfa Romeo Giulia permit a multitude of settings and what is true is that it is possible to adopt a driving posture quite low. However, the rear seats do not turn out so fortunate. If the front seats are very delayed, you can miss out room for the legs and if the seats are too low, there is little room for putting your feet below.
The center seat back is high, narrow and hard, which, together with the tunnel transmission makes the rear seats of the Alfa Giulia may be more appropriate for two people. If tall people travel very upright, they may have problems of space for the head. There is No armrest rear and the rear backrest is not hinged.
trunk does not come out much better off, with a mouth of small charge, that will make it difficult to load large objects. The trunk has a few of the ways quite regular, except in the high area of the background, which reduces the headroom even more, being already somewhat fair. The trunk of the Giulia cubic 480 litre capacity.
2.2 diesel 150 CV test
During the presentation we could only test the Alfa Romeo Giulia engine 2.2 diesel 150 hp and manual gearbox six-speed. There was No time to check its dynamic qualities on twisty roads, so we had to settle for a tour largely urban, and by the roads of Madrid.
in Spite of its brevity, the trip was enough to appreciate the refinement of the engine, both in terms of sound as well as vibrations, keeping the cabin very well insulated. Picking up those vibrations, at idle these we can notice only on the gear lever, as is the case with other of its rival premium with the engine longitudinal. The Stop & Start is also something sharp in the maneuvers start and stop.
engine 2.2 150 CV is quite full from the lower area cuentavueltas, so that the handling in town is nice, even on long marches. The gearbox six-speed has a few tours to be accurate, something long and slow when we want to change very quickly. The indicator of gear change better not make it much heed, as it is easy to notice that the engine circulates a forced and, of course, with very little room to manoeuvre.
During the brief tour we were able to verify as the suspensions filtered well, they are comfortable, but also keep the body stable and contribute to a good dynamic behavior. The direction is fast, even touch something artificial and allows to handle the Giulia with agility. If we force, we will notice as the Giulia offers a behavior of a propelled vehicle, where it is easier to collide with hints of oversteer.
The expectations for the Giulia in Spain
What bqué expected to Alfa Romeo’s Giulia in Spain? What is certain is that in the plan of the brand biscione, we see how the 69% of forecast sales correspond to companies of renting and fleet, while the 31% remaining would fall on the individuals. Alpha hoped that the model of the larger volume corresponds to the 2.2 diesel 180 hp associated with automatic transmission.
to reach a greater number of customers, Alfa Romeo offers the Giulia in renting, leasing, or using different forms of financing. But the highlight is the new Alpha Free, which enables the payment of 50% of the value of the vehicle and the following two years without fees. After it is possible to change the car to a new one, keep it by paying the final payment, refinancing the remaining balance or return the car.
