BMW i8 has been a success since its launch. The sporty hybrid from the German brand has sold much better than expected, even forced to double their production due to a incessant demand that it was that the waiting list was achieved for up to 18 months. With this fame that has been won, many supporters wait for the arrival of the BMW i8 Spyder.

Since then there is nothing implausible in a variant without a roof of the popular hybrid. The brand itself has even shown prototypes that did think in a release imminent. In 2012 appeared the BMW i8 Concept Spyder and recently, at CES in Las Vegas, was presented the BMW i Vision Future Interaction that came loaded with technology, and in addition gave up to the ceiling and side door.

But the latest statements of sources of BMW say the i8 Spyder will not come in this year. We will have to wait as bit by bit until 2017, or even to 2018, in order to see the sporty hybrid without a roof. It appears that the development of this model is done without haste, because the priorities of the brand are looking to the other side. For example, in a rival to the Tesla Model S.

The new electric that could receive the name of BMW i5, I would be ahead in the list of models to be developed in the mark. In any case, the i8 Spyder, although delayed in arrival, it seems that shall continue to be in the agenda. What is more likely is that it is identical mechanically to the coupe version with the same hybrid drive system. Thanks to its carbon-fibre chassis reinforcements to improve stiffness would be minimal and would not increase a lot your total weight.
