The category GTE in the WEC happens to be the World Championship


The World Council of the Motor and held in Vienna has approved
a series of measures around the WEC ahead of the season 2017. With the
calendar of nine events confirmed, the main novelty is the update of the status
of the GTE
, that goes from Cup to the World Championship in what was a
old aspiration of the riders and the brands that were competing in the same. In addition,
it has also been confirmed the freezing of the Technical Regulation for the
category LMP1-Hybrid
, so that the prototypes of the class queen will not receive
changes up to 2020, establishing the technical basis of 2017, to the two
following seasons.

The category GTE happens to be the World Championship and as such
give the titles of pilots and brands to their winners
, this equals the role
the absolute category of the contest. To date and since the creation
the World of Resistance in 2012, the riders of the category GTE-Pro and
GTE-Am disputing a World Cup, which entailed a comparative injury in
respect to the riders and the brands that compete with prototype. All in all, the FIA
has justified its decision on the basis of the increase in the involvement of the
marks in the championship
