The FIA decides not to approve the Volkswagen Polo R WRC 2017

There is No turning back. The FIA has decided not to approve the
Volkswagen Polo R WRC 2017
after the various proceedings that have taken
out in the past few days. In this way, the World Rally Car German will not be able to
to compete in the season 2017 World Rally, to the chagrin of Andreas
Mikkelsen, main defender putting it in competition. In this aspect, the FIA
has not assumed the process exceptional
that he had to carry out to achieve
the homologation of the Polo R WRC and that was that count with the approval of the
other manufacturers present
in the WRC.

The output of Volkswagen Motorsport as a manufacturer, forced
face recognition exceptional, far away from the original deadline of January 1,
2017 marked by the FIA. Being a private effort, the rest of
manufacturers had to give the okay and for that purpose to be held a meeting
during the last Monte carlo Rally,
. There were a good number of
doubts, primarily in the breast of Citro├źn and Hyundai, which were transferred to
Volkswagen Motorsport by Jarmo Mahonen. Following discussions with all
parts, the FIA has decided not to grant the approval of the World Rally Car German.

In statements to ‘Autosport’, Sven Smeets, Director of
Volkswagen Motorsport, confirmed the decision: “After the consultations
with our customers, ask the FIA for a waiver in the process of
the Volkswagen Polo R WRC 2017. The goal was to rent our
World Rally Car drivers and private teams. Now it turns out that this is not
possible under the current regulations of the World
. We can fully accept the
result, but at the same time we regret this decision in the interest of
our customers”
. This resolution does not affect the program
with the Volkswagen Polo R WRC 2016 and nor the
creation of the Volkswagen Polo R5
