Maro Engel will be flying the second single Venturi Racing during the third season of Formula E. The German to fill the gap left by Mike Conway on the structure and will partner with Stéphane Sarrazin, that will be the voice of experience within the team. With this step, Engel will compete in a category of single-seaters for the first time since 2007 when he left Formula 3 to give the jump to the DTM event in which he remained during four seasons. After exiting the Championship German Touring at the end of 2011, in recent years, Engel has specialized in categories with vehicles GT.
To their 30-year, Maro Engel has managed to make a name in the categories > remain champion of the inaugural edition of the FIA GT World Cup in Macau and being part of the team that won the 24 Hours of Nürburgring for Mercedes. However, you can’t say that this move by Venturi Racing is something that caught by surprise that the Maro Engel has been ‘test driver’ of the team and has been helping in the development of the VM200-FE-02. Despite this move, Maro Engel will maintain its commitment to Black Falcon in the Blancpain GT Series and in the rest of categories.
In relation to this new project, Maro Engel explained to ‘Autosport’ after confirming his signing: “In the last few years I have been racing with a roof over my head, so I’m looking forward to get into a car again. The opportunity to test and develop the car of the third season was an idea that I really liked. It’s something that I wanted to do. Has somehow presented with the opportunity of running in the car, and it is something I wanted to do. Formula E has great drivers, events and teams“.
