The Hyundai i20 R5 is very close to its type-approval after to live a real marathon test of the hand of Kevin Abbring, which has had up to eight days of testing in the last two weeks in Italy. With this testing program focused proposed by Hyundai Motorsport in various locations in Italy, such as Turin or Sardinia, the fifth R5 is almost ready to pass the technical review of the FIA. During these tests, in addition to assessing small improvements in the set-up of the engine also has been working on a new suspension with specifications of earth.
After this marathon of tests, Kevin Abbring and Seb Marshall are inserted in the dynamics of the official team of Hyundai Motorsport to contest the Rally of Portugal with a i20 WRC for the season 2015, while the technicians team ‘race-client’ Hyundai will analyze all the data collected. In this aspect, Andrea Adamo, Director of the department, has been explained on the official website of the WRC: “Having tried for eight of the last fifteen days has been hard for everyone and for the car. However, everyone knew that it was what we needed to do in order to respect our own development program”.
Explaining a bit as has been the dynamics of these test in Italy, the Andrea Adamo added: “two days in the airport of Sardinia qualified us to confirm the work that we have done in the test of the previous week, and then we tested on earth, and was thus able to develop the car to that specification”. In this line, Adamo explained: “we’re Going to make a second chassis of the i20 R5 in Alzenau to be able to use both cars during separate tests on asphalt and earth. This means that we can increase the amount of test in the last few months before our date of approval in the summer”.
