Kia prepares its first hybrid, and today they met the early sketches official. This is the Niro Hybrid Concept, a crossover that should see the light during the first half of next year as a production model.
Kia had used the name Niro in the prototype of a crossover subcompact presented a couple of years ago at the Frankfurt motor show. However the sketches released today, correspond to a new product, that has grown in dimensions with the purpose of competing in the compact segment.
The graphs show a front with the typical current design of Kia, grill tiger-nose, daytime running lights LED – and some fog lights of a considerable size. In the posterior sector also breathe a family air, with a few optical groups similar to those used in the SUV of the brand.
Kia ensures that the body of five door has been aerodynamically optimized, covering all its panels, with the addition of a few mouldings plastic lining the wheel arches, which also give look more muscular. The product has been developed a completely new, specifically designed for hybrid products.
mechanically Niro Hybrid Concept uses a unit Kappa with a block of 1.6 liters of displacement, and 104 horsepower with 147 Nm of torque, which is associated with a electric motor 32kW and a battery of ions of lithium of 1.45 kWh. The power is sent to the front wheels through a transmission DCT of six gears, while Kia ensures that at a later stage can be offered as a variant 4×4.
The Kia Niro could debut as a prototype in one of the lounges of the united States next year, either in Detroit that will take place in the month of January, or Chicago in the month of February. The production of the Niro, which will be a global model, will begin during the first quarter of next year at the plant in Hwasung in South Korea.
