Yesterday was met, nothing more and nothing less than two decades that the first Skoda Octavia came out, for the first time, of the production line. A year and a half before had given the banderazo output to the rehabilitation of the plant which will later produce, in Mladá Boleslav. Today, the Octavia, is the best-selling model for the Czech brand with more than 5 million units marketed.
however, all had begun long before. In 1992, shortly before the Czech brand is joining the Volkswagen Group, started the project for the Skoda Octavia. Its design, both aesthetic and functional, are developed using the latest technology of that time, the program CAD computer design. This provided a high passive safety which is combined with the use of airbags, both front and side.
When it was launched to the market, at the end of 1996, the Skoda Octavia only was available with three engines, two petrol and one diesel, and only available in the body sedan. Subsequently, in mid-1998, it was the Octavia Combi, the alternative family model in the Czech republic. The results were quite positive and Skoda dared to release a version of four wheel drive that was only available with bodywork family. The first generation of Skoda Octavia came to an end in 2010, with 1.4 million units sold.
In 2004 came the second generation, which shared many years with the first. He followed the line of his predecessor and returned to work, although since it was a car much more technological and with engines more efficient. According to the brand itself, were delivered 2.5 million units of this second generation.
8 years later, in 2012, the signature Czech belonging to the Volkswagen was launching the third generation of the sedan best-sellers. As we said at the beginning of this article, between the three generations have already passed the important barrier of 5 million units. A success that was born of one of the most humble of Europe.
