The Dakar 2016 will not start until this coming January 2, but what is certain is that the activity around the test is already in progress. With the pilots, copilots and technicians already in Argentina to adapt to the time change and to the climatic conditions of the country, these past days are used to make the latest technical revisions and adjustments to the vehicles. There are No exceptions and the Team Peugeot-Total has completed the shakedown prior to the test to verify that everything works correctly in the four units of the Peugeot 2008 DKR16 of Stéphane Peterhansel, Carlos Sainz, Sébastien Loeb and Cyril Despres.
During the shakedown, everything has gone to request of mouth, so that the vehicles of Peugeot Sport are already ready to spend the checks the 1 of January starting at 10:30 hours. A step before the real competition, which is face to face with illusion and enthusiasm, as transmitted Stéphane Peterhansel with his words: “there was Already a good atmosphere in the team last year, but now we are more united. There is power and a great team. The sensations are much better than those experienced last year. The shakedown has allowed us to feel comfortable with the car“.
Carlos Sainz finished the shakedown with the same feelings: “All goes well-until now. We take into account the lessons we have learned and the car is going much better. This does not guarantee anything in terms of result, but we are better prepared. The fiabialidad will be crucial in the Dakar. The first part of the route is not ideal for the 2008 DKR16″. On the contrary, Sebastien Loeb was more cautious: “it Is my first Dakar and I’m not particularly confident. We have zero experience and not going to be easy. It is fun to do something new for me, to start from scratch. I have a good feeling with the car“.
despite the good words of Stéphane Peterhansel, Carlos Sainz, Sébastien Loeb and Cyril Despres, there are many voices that do not place in the Team Peugeot Total as a real contender for the ‘Touareg’ in the category of cars. The technical problems experienced in the Dakar 2015 and above all, the concept vehicle 4×2 of the Peugeot 2008 DKR16, unfavorable in many moments of the test, are the main arguments. In fact, the current champion Nasser Al-Attiyah believes that Peugeot does not abide the rhythm of the Mini for 13 days, especially at the level of reliability.
