The Volkswagen Golf carries for 82 consecutive months being the best-selling model of the Old Continent

car sales in Europe completed by 2016 with 15.141.326 units registered, which implies a rise of 6.5% with respect to the previous year. It is a good result, especially in a year marked by a noteworthy event as the Brexit, and it is the largest volume reached in the 29 european markets analyzed by JATO Dynamics since 2007.

The ranking model is no longer a clear winner, with much margin over the second classified. The Volkswagen Golf has been the car most sought after for the european clientele, an honorific title that conquest for the ninth year in a row and in no less than 29 times in the last 34 years. With the arrival of its restyling, everything points to the compact German will continue to maintain its reign during 2017.

The second plaza has been much tighter, with three models of the B-segment struggling to conquer it. Silver has been for the Renault Clio -leader of sales in France – which equals their best result in history the classification. The Volkswagen Polo is awarded the third position and the Ford Fiesta -leader of sales in the Uk – they are left with honey on the lips out of the podium.

The Opel Corsa -including its british version of the brand Vauxhall – complete the Top 5, and, just behind it, is your older brother Opel Astra. The compact German has been boosted thanks to the new generation and has improved their sales up a fantastic 30% in comparison with 2015.

Other models featured have been the Nissan Qashqai which remains the SUV sold, the Skoda Octavia (9) that equals its best historical position and the Renault Capture (10) entering for the first time in the Top 10. Also it is worth noting the presence of two Spanish models in the high positions of the table, with the Seat Leon -leader of sales in Spain, occupying the 28th square and the Seat Ibiza in the 37th position.

Our national brand can also boast that the Seat Ateca is the completely new model this year (that is to say, that is not a new generation or restyling of an existing one) most sought after with 22.920 units. Follow the Jaguar F-Pace 20.222 units and the Suzuki Positioned 14.389 units.
