The Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 already wheel on asphalt

Volkswagen has released the first picture of the Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 on the occasion of the first tests of the German model. The next car in ‘race-client’ brand of Wolfsburg has successfully completed his first test session in palm gravel and asphalt, located in France, same scenario that the brand also became one of the first tests, the successful Volkswagen Polo R WRC. As then, Dieter Depping has been put at the controls of the Polo GTI R5, although on this occasion the pilot testing of Volkswagen Motorsport has been accompanied by Pontus Tidemand, pilot with a great experience on the Skoda Fabia R5.

The Polo GTI R5, based on the sixth generation of the compact German, has been taken to the limit over the three days in the vicinity of Fontjoncouse. During the first day, both Depping as Tidemand assessed the engine, the cooling or brake system of the Polo GTI R5 on a stretch of asphalt 3.85 km. The same conditions of dry weather and pleasant were witness of the other two days of tests, completed on gravel to to verify the performance of the chassis or the suspensions. Every detail must be taken care to reach an optimum level. It should be recalled that the Polo GTI R5 will be homologated to the mid 2018.

In relation to this first test session of the Polo GTI R5, Sven Smeets, director of Volkswagen Motorsport, he has explained in the statement issued by the brand: Has been a first successful test, which is a good sign and a great motivation. After so many hours and weeks working on our latest project ‘race-client’ on the computer, in its design, and ultimately in the workshop, it is great to be able to see the Polo GTI R5 road. You can finally show what he is capable on the road and we collect important data for the future development of the car”.
