Roborace is not only an ambitious project to compete with autonomous cars without a driver at the heart of Formula E, it is now something tangible. Coinciding with the hour prior to the start of the ePrix of Long Beach, have unveiled the first designs of the cars of the Roborace, name given to this contest intended for vehicles loaded with sensors and with a good dose of artificial intelligence, but without human intervention of any kind. A first step palpable to the foundation of this category opening of the Formula E that will be managed by the british company, Kinetik.
Daniel Simon has been in charge of the first designs of the Roborace Car, a vehicle completely different from what we’ve seen in a circuit up to now. Perhaps the name does not tell you too much, but we are talking about the responsible for creating other vehicles cutting futuristic as appearing in the films ‘Tron: Legacy’ or ‘Cosmic Motors’. With this background, it is not surprising that the result is a vehicle that is radical and based on different concepts to own cars. Daniel Simon has been appointed Head of Design of the category.
At the technical level, all the Roborace Car will have an identical hardware, including the portion of the electric thruster, which will serve to join ties with the Formula E category which was accompanied from the season 2016-17. The performance difference of the different Roborace Car will be determined by the Artificial Intelligence (IA) teams to deliver to their cars. Not change its exterior design because it has already been weighing in an image to ensure performance and beauty in equal parts. Without cabin and spoilers, all of the downforce is generated under the vehicle and for the lines that are drawn around their suspensions.
