Max Verstappen is, for many, one of those talents that arise in the competition each many years. So thought Franz Tost, who followed his racing career from karting and in Formula 3, a category in which she dazzled in his first season.
“I Met Max when I was in karting and I saw all his races of the F3 in 2014. After the race of Norisring, I (Helmut) Marko and I told him that it would not be a risk to go for it. This guy is an incredible machine of control, has no problems with the speed and understand very well all the technical aspects, including the tires,” said Franz Tost to Motorsport, which revealed that “after his test in Japan (free practice of the GP of Japan, 2014), it became clear that this posed no risk”.
Max made his debut with Toro Rosso in 2015 and, this year, was promoted to Red Bull in the Spanish Grand Prix after a disappointing start of Daniil Kvyat. Tost has always defended the ability of the Russian pilot, but admits that losing Verstappen was complicated. “Change drivers mid-season is always a problem for the team. The pilot is an element of motivation for all team members. Max is a special pilot and to lose someone like him during the season is not easy”, ” said Tost, however, praised the conditions of Kvyat. “Daniil Kvyat is a very talented rider, but in the beginning it was difficult for him to change from a team that fight for the top positions as Red Bull. But now the situation is improving”.
Since I went from Red Bull to Toro Rosso, Daniil Kvyat has only scored in three runs, getting four points. On the contrary, Carlos Sainz has managed to 18.
