Toyota C-HR Racing: an SUV to compete at the Nürburgring

The 24 Hours of Nürburgring are an essential event for the department of competition of Toyota and Lexus. Unified under the team Toyota Gazoo Racing, the presence of both brands has been intensifying with the passing of the years. Well, for the next edition of the test Toyota we have reserved a great surprise. In addition to the Lexus RC and Lexus RC F, which will be in competition-replacing one of them at the Lexus LFA which competed in 2015, the brand will compete with an SUV. Although it sounds bizarre, a version of the Toyota C-HR will compete at the Nürburgring.

The SUV and crossover have conquered the streets and now seek to place their flag in the ‘Green Hell’, one of the scenarios most revered in the world of competition and between the ‘petrolhead’. The 44th edition of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring will take place between the 28th and 29th of may 2016 and colará the Toyota C-HR Racing, a version bastard and of competition of the latest SUV of the brand. As has been revealed by the brand this quirky competitive unit will be piloted by japan’s Masahiko Kageyama and Kumi Sato. Lack of a third driver to be confirmed.

despite the surprising thing that’s supposed to see a race version of the Toyota C-HR, presented at the iaa in Frankfurt in September 2015, what is certain is that the 24 Hours of Nürburgring is a stronghold of proposed ‘alternatives’. The demanding regulations of the majority of the categories do not allow for this kind of experiments, something that does not happen with the test held at the Nordschleife. Although these proposals ‘eccentric’ often respond to private projects, in this case it is the Toyota GAZOO Racing the that bet by placing their SUV C-HR Racing in competition, coinciding with its tenth participation in the test.
