Users of the Corvette Z06 will sue GM for a problem of cooling

The Corvette Z06 is the most powerful version of the current range.

At least until the arrival this year of the new Corvette ZR1, the Corvette Z06 remains the most powerful and brutal of the range of the sporty Chevrolet, in addition to being the version intended for the track and that is based on the C7 Corvette.R competition. However, customers don’t seem to say the same thing, and have decided to join together to sue General Motors for the poor performance in the circuit model.

According to the lawsuit, the cooling system that mounted the Z06 models 2015 and 2017 is deficient for use in track, which causes the vehicle to enter “safe mode” a few minutes of entering circuit. Specifically, the lawsuit states that in only 15 minutes, the model enters in this mode, cutting drastically the delivery of power and therefore the speed, which is quite unsafe when it is within a circuit, even if it is just for a one day track day.

This reminds us of the similar claim that they have presented some of the owners of the current Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, which allege that the lack of cooling in some elements, such as transmission and differential, cause the vehicle to between also in “safe mode”, which not only impedes its use but, as we have already commented, could turn the vehicle in a real chicane mobile in the middle of a circuit.

The Z06 is the basis of the Corvetet C7.R competition.

Although the case of the Corvette Z06 seems to be something more serious, because according to the lawsuit, the Z06 you can also enter in “safe mode” even out-of-circuit, while it is being used in road.

so, materialize really this as a widespread failure that does not affect a few units, it would mean that the cooling system of the Z06 has some type of defect, whether of design or manufacture. In some cases, owners have reported breakages of expensive repair related to this defect of the cooling system, as overheating deforms vital components of the mechanics.

The class-action lawsuit has been filed in the state of Florida, and alleges that General Motors knew of the problem but neither revealed nor did anything to solve it, limited to offer the vehicle as a valid and safe. Up to this time, was estimated to have been sold more than 30,000 units of the model 2015 to 2017 Corvette Z06.
