From the second week of December we knew Volkswagen was going to submit in the CES Las Vegas 2016 a prototype. This concept car has already been shown in the first teaser, and has now been unveiled, giving their name, Volkswagen Budd-e. The brand itself describes this model as the van of the TWENTY-first century, while taking into account that its length is 4.6 meters, we could consider it as a new minivan located between the Volkswagen Touran and Sharan, while their image is closer to the T6 for the forms, which are reminiscent of the Volkswagen Bulli concept 2011.
As we can imagine by its name, the Volkswagen Budd-e is an electric model and very avant-garde, like any good concept car. Try to anticipate how will be the electric mobility Volkswagen in 2019, so that in a few years we could see a model of similar characteristics, both technical and aesthetic. It is the first model of the German mark in using the new platform modular SEM for electric vehicles (Modular Electric Platform). The main advantage of the new platform is the strategic location of the batteries and electric components to encourage liveability.
The features of the Volkswagen Budd-e as the electric vehicle are very interesting, since it promises to 600 kilometers and a quick recharge of the 80% of the battery capacity in just 15 minutes. There are different types of load for the batteries, among them inductive. The battery 101 kWh is flat and is located on the floor of the Volkswagen Budd-e, lowering the center of gravity and optimizing the interior space. There is an electric motor on each axle to propel the vehicle at a maximum speed of up to 150 km/h.
The Volkswagen Budd-e has a robust design due to a few of the ways quite square and short overhangs. To access the rear of the cabin there is only a sliding door on the right side. All the lighting for the prototype is LED and called the attention of the pilots in the rear, surrounding virtually the whole of the moon back creating a sort of luminous arc.
The interior is even more futuristic than the exterior. The dashboard is radically different to what can be imagined, with a series of screens integrated into a panel called Active Info Display that serves as the dashboard and center console. These screens are widely configurable and can be manipulated by touch, with gestural control and voice control.
The “Drive” is the main Active Info Display. Displays the navigation 3D maps, and other information of the driving speed, the autonomy or the witnesses of the indicators of the cruise control. To the left is the “Control” section, which displays information about systems of care and the trip computer. The third part is called “Consumed” and this would be the screen of the multimedia computer, where information is displayed, the reproduction of audio, the calendar or the time. It is located to the right of the whole.
multifunction steering wheel of the Volkswagen Budd-e also has no buttons. It is a touchscreen and the functions are activated by keystrokes or swipes over a wider area than other systems of this type, which require you to make gestures on a surface very concrete. The gesture control will also be very present in this prototype to control various functions such as the opening of the sliding door electrical.
to Have mirrors in a prototype such technology would be somewhat archaic, and for that reason the Volkswagen Budd-e has the technology e-Mirror, which consists of rear-view mirrors digital display the images captured by cameras.
The Volkswagen Budd-e also will provide information through a smartwatch or smartphone, which will have the user informed of the status of the vehicle. In addition, by using a few small stickers transmitters, the Budd-e can be to make an inventory of the objects that we have in the car. An umbrella with that sticker will always be identifiable by the vehicle, and if there is rain forecast, will inform us if the umbrella is in the car or not.
Also offer connectivity with the home, with the possibility to activate from the inside of the Budd-e lights, air conditioning, or display other information. Here, not only is the technology of the Volkswagen Budd-e, but what each have in your home. The car will also feature a messaging service by which the messengers will be able to deliver packages in the interior of the vehicle through a digital key.
