they Have won 34 of the 39 rallies since they came to the WRC, but Volkswagen must set the counter to zero. The German team begins its journey in the Monte carlo Rally, first round of the World Championship Rally in 2016. A test in which Ogier has taken victory in the last two editions and that in 2015 pilots, the firm cornered the three positions of the podium. Precedents may not be best and although the Polo R WRC is the model of reference the ‘Mount’ is so unpredictable that not even Volkswagen can trust.
Sébastien Ogier is the rider of reference of Volkswagen in the Rally Monte carlo, competes in the home. Natural of the Gap, the sections of the test passed by the place in which he grew up. A motivation more than enough to seek its third consecutive victory in this event. The French has not been on the podium since the 2013 edition: “I can Not imagine a rally better way to start the season. I won the ‘Monte’ in the past two years and I would like to repeat this season. For me is the Rally of the year“.
After having played four editions of the Rally Monte carlo, Sébastien Ogier knows which are the keys to achieve a good result in the stretch, although it is not a secret for none of the drivers: “The key factor is the choice of tires. The pilots are very dependent on our ‘spies’ in the ice. It is about making a correct interpretation of the climatic conditions in each moment and understand the unique climate that they have the Alps. I Hope that we achieve this year“.
Jari-Matti Latvala is ‘old dog’ and has his back to eight
shares in the Monte carlo Rally, . The Finnish however only
has finished on the podium on one occasion in the past year: “The Rally of
Monte carlo is a special test, year after year. The conditions
weather in the mountains can change almost from one moment to another. The
roads affected by the sun are completely different to those of the
shaded part, where often the ice makes act of presence. The
better communication with our ‘spies’, the more possibilities there are
to achieve a good result”.
Andreas Mikkelsen also
you know the podium in the Rally of Monte carlo, although the Norwegian has only
played the trial on three occasions, once in the IRC and two in the
World. The Norwegian season starts after winning his first
victory in the WRC at the recent Rally of Catalunya: “I have to admit
the Rally Monte carlo is not one of my rallies favorites. I ended up
third last year, and it would be exceptional to be able to repeat that result in
2016. I’m going to compete with my new co-driver Anders Jaeger. I have a
feeling very positive after the test performed with Anders. I’m sure
that we will find our rhythm”.
