Volvo we are accustomed to vehicles from the likes of the new S90 and V90 or of its successful SUV XC90. Although the Swedish brand also makes trucks and it seems that they should not be given the wrong thing. They are currently working on a unique specimen which receives the name of The Iron Knight (el caballero de hierro). It’s a truck highly prepared that has a clear objective: beat several world records of speed in its category.
For it has been equipped with the D13 engine of the Swedish brand. This mechanical six cylinders and 12.8 liters has already been used in other trucks, in which he develops 540 HP of series. However, for this occasion it has been modified, and you will receive nothing less than four turbos that will increase your power. The final figure reached an amazing 2.400 HP and 6000 Nm of torque. With that we already feel like going to see it in motion.
For the moment the Swedish brand only shows us a few teasers to open the appetite. The Iron Knight appears in the video although we can not see much of him. They tell us that the engine of which we have spoken goes mounted in the center of the chassis, just behind the cab. Also that it is rear wheel drive and that uses the gearbox of dual-clutch i-Shift. The final weight of the truck is around 4.5 tons.
‘The knight of iron’ is a vehicle fully handcrafted and made-to-measure in order to achieve your goal. Its chassis is that of a truck competition and the dimensions of your cabin is made of a glass fiber. It has been optimized aerodynamics to the maximum to make it as fast as possible. En the coming days we will see if this machine Volvo manages to beat the record of highest speed in the first 500 meters and 1,000 meters with the pilot Boije Ovebrink behind the wheel.
