What are the 10 brands that are most reliable according to the OCU? And what about the 10 less reliable? Spoiler: master Japan

what Is a myth is the reliability of the japanese brands? To view this and other stats might not look like. At least that is the conclusion we arrive at after having a look at the results of various surveys of reliability international, the last published by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU). According to its latest survey, the three brands most reliable on the Spanish market are Honda, Lexus and Toyota. That is not all, of the ten brands most reliable, six would correspond with japanese brands, rounding out the top 10, two German, one Korean and one French native of Romania. And what exactly are those marks?

The ranking of the study by the OCU is dominated by the japanese manufacturers.

Before continuing, it is important to take into account what is definition of reliability according to the OCU. Since it is a survey, we talk about a statistic carried out with a limited sampling. According to the OCU, has surveyed more than 30,000 european drivers about the damage suffered by cars in the last 12 months, excluding those caused by accidents. Also has worked on a total of 70,000 ratings.

What we do not know, certainly, is the age of the automobile of the respondents. With which this survey would have a big problem: it is not effective to draw any conclusion about the true reliability, at the present time, of the products of a new registration of a manufacturer.

The breakdowns most frequent are those relating to electrical components (21%).

on the other hand neither can we forget a very important aspect. reliability refers not only to the low propensity to breakdowns of the mechanics of the car, an aspect that has always been the budget of the petrol engines atmospheric japanese. That is to say, this survey encompasses all those issues that have made that a customer has to leave your car in the workshop, with the exception of those that were the result of an accident. It is not surprising that 21% of the failures mentioned by the respondents were related to electrical components, such as lights, fuses, light bulbs, witnesses of the dashboard, central locking, electric windows. The breakdowns of the engine would be reduced to 7%.

Said, the OCU has created an index of reliability that provides an estimate of the 1 to 100, where the 1 is the index of reliability to the lowest, and 100 is the index of reliability more high. Unfortunately, neither the press note of your web portal, or the attached report in your publication of February (which is only accessible to subscribers) gives more information about how it has developed such an index. Which again leaves us with an incomplete, and therefore invalid to draw conclusions.

The ten brands that are most reliable are the following (from highest reliability to lowest reliability):

1. Honda
2. Lexus
3. Toyota
4. BMW
5. Mazda
6. Mitsubishi
7. Kia
8. Subaru
9. Audi
10. Dacia

model more reliable, by the way, is the Honda Jazz 1.2 (2008-2011), with a reliability index of 98.

The top ten brands less reliable (with lower reliability higher reliability):

1. SsangYong
2. Dodge
3. Alfa Romeo
4. Land Rover
5. Fiat
6. Chevrolet / Daewoo
7. Chrysler

9. Lancia
10. SEAT

marcas-coches-mas-fiables-02The figures are not very different from those which we have already seen in other similar studies, such as those published by J. D. Power. The reliability index in Germany last year, for example, was also dominated by the japanese. In the united States it also happened something similar, and the results were similar to those of Spain, with a reliability index header by Lexus.

In any case, we insist that these studies are statistics, and these statistics have a degree of reliability on, and that has given an importance that is very relative, especially if we find that we lack data to judge the results, as in the case that occupies to us.
