few months Ago my partner David Villarreal talked to us about the new labelling of emissions that the DGT has approved for the cars. This tagged classifies all the vehicles in function of their level of emissions. Until the moment, the labelling is only what I have seen in the smart fortwo electric circulating in Madrid as part of the service car2go from Daimler. But the implications of this labeling efficiency portend a future complex: who’s going to pay the consequences of the labeling? What if I have a car entered in years?
Of time, the installation of the distinctive emissions of the DGT is voluntary.
Let refrescaros a little memory. This labelling of emissions has been created by the DGT, and wants to to differentiate between the vehicles in circulation according to their level of pollutant emissions. This labelling breaks with everything known now, desligando of their emissions of carbon dioxide “pollution” emitted by the car. For years and years has been linked to the tax burden and the Tax Registration to the emissions level of CO2 of the car. Thanks to its lower emissions of CO2, the number of cars diesel increased dramatically in our country, driven by a favorable tax regime and a cheaper fuel.
at The end of the years, this situation caused a derivative pernicious. pollution in large cities has increased considerably, and from Europe began to manage pulling of ears to our management. It was also found that the emissions of oxides of nitrogen – commonly known as NOx – and particulate matter of diesel engines are harmful to our health. This has led to an increase in the control of emissions to diesel vehicles, providing them with complex and expensive systems, anti-pollution – such as particulate filters or the treatment of the exhaust gases with AdBlue.
As says the Spanish proverb: “if the beards of your neighbor you see to peel, put yours to soak”.
Some european countries – such as Germany – already have labeling efficiency for their vehicles, in accordance with european legislation anti-pollution fulfilled. Before the increase of air pollution, some countries have started to introduce traffic restrictions in urban centres, and cities like Paris have directly prohibited the circulation in the centre to vehicles prior to the year 1997. The labeling efficiency is a simple control mechanism, that facilitates and legalizes the restrictions to the circulation.
The labeling efficiency of the DGT will be the instrument of the future restrictions on the traffic in our country, as well as the incentive that will modify the taxation of our vehicles. I do not doubt it: this labelling of emissions opens the door to the expulsion of the cities of the older cars, especially those equipped with a diesel engine. This labeling efficiency is not yet mandatory, but it is already distributing, and installing in less-polluting vehicles.
note that this tagging:
Zero Emissions: electric cars battery (BEV), electric extended-range (REEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) with a battery life of a minimum of 40 kilometers. Also included in this category the vehicle fuel cell stack. To receive this qualification vehicles like the Nissan Leaf or the BMW i3.
ECHO: it will include hybrid vehicles, not plug-in, powered by natural gas (CNG and LNG), or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), always and when you exceed the criteria of the distinctive C. will Receive this qualification vehicles such as the Toyota Prius.
C: diesel passenger cars registered from January 2014, and petrol enrolled from January 2006. Gasoline from Euro4 and diesel Euro6.
B: cars, petrol registered from January 2000, and diesel from January 2006. Gasoline from Euro3, diesel and Euro4 and Euro 5.
do you Perceive absences in this labelling? The diesel prior to 2006 and the gasoline prior to the year 2000 will not receive a labelling of emissions. In the future, will be the first to be excluded from the center of big cities. In the first instance – we are speculating, but with base – in episodes of high pollution, and in a few years, by rule. I don’t want to be sensationalist or alarmist, but is that this already happens in some cities of Germany, part of Scandinavia and in cities such as Paris.
what if I have an old car?
Should be avoided at all costs the economic injury to those who cannot afford a car more modern.
The question is rhetorical, friends. These traffic restrictions, and this labeling are an incentive for you to change your car for another more clean. The problem is not what we owners of classic enjoyment or sports. The problem will be those that circulate with an older vehicle because they can’t allow one more modern. This is a reality in a country that still has an unemployment rate rampant in the unfortunately, job insecurity – as much as we say otherwise – is the order of the day.
Nor did we increase of the fiscal pressure on vehicles without labeling or to vehicles of category C, progressively. When this type of programs come into force – when, not if, will come into force – we hope to be established aid large to the purchase of a vehicle of lower emissions for those with an economic situation less favorable. We also ask for a gradual introduction of these restrictions, as well as a strong campaign in advance of information to the public.
Is the minimum in order to avoid grievances and injustices to those who can’t afford vehicles of lower emissions.
